The Albert Lea girls’ basketball team could not overcome a cold night from beyond the arc Thursday during a 64-52 overtime loss at Mankato West.
The Tigers 5 percent from long range with 21 attempts.
Bryn Woodside scored a team-high 18 points for Albert Lea. Megan Kortan posted a double-double with 14 points and led the Tigers with 10 rebounds. Sydney Rehnelt had 14 points, nine-rebounds and a team-high three assists.
Albert Lea head coach Lindsey Hugstad-Vaa said the Tigers trailed at halftime. With seconds left in regulation and the score tied, Albert Lea had a chance to take the lead with two free throws. Both shots clanged off the rim, to force overtime.
On a positive note, the Tigers out-rebounded the Scarlets 43-17.
“Our rebounding was noticably better than it has been,” Hugstad-Vaa said.
Albert Lea (2-6 overall, 1-4 Big Nine Conference) will host Rochester Century at 7:30 p.m. today.
The Panthers (5-5 overall, 2-2 Big Nine Conference) have not played since Dec. 28 at the Rochester Rotary tournament.
