Erma Levisen, 87, Albert Lea

Funeral services for Erma E. Levisen will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Ascension Lutheran Church, Albert Lea. The Rev. Mark Boorsma will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Bonnerup Funeral Chapel, Albert Lea, and again one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Graceland Cemetery.

Erma died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at the Good Samaritan Society. She was 87.

Erma was born June 2, 1926, to John and Nettie (Behle) Fogel, in Albert Lea. She was an Albert Lea resident her entire life. She was baptized and confirmed at Concordia Lutheran Church, Pickerel Lake. After attending country school in Albert Lea, Erma went to work for the University of Minnesota Extension Services. Erma was united in marriage to Arnold Levisen on June 24, 1948. To this union, three daughters were born.

In her earlier years, Erma was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and later became a member of Ascension Lutheran Church. At Trinity Lutheran, she was involved in Circle, and for many years at Ascension, she organized the Aebleskiver Supper. Erma was also a member of the Danish Sisterhood. Erma was a homemaker and worked for Clothing Care, Albert Lea, for more than 20 years.

Erma gained satisfaction from gardening, sewing and playing card games (especially “500”). She and Arnold used to go dancing frequently. She was also known as an excellent cook. Erma loved being with her family, and she especially enjoyed her time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Erma is preceded in death by her parents, John and Nettie Fogel; siblings, Hilda (Henry) Krueger, Lillian (Willard) Reichl and Aaron Fogel; mother and father in-law, Jens (Marie) Levisen; brother and sister in-laws, Thorvold (Irene) Levisen, Lillian (Ingward) Bro, Helen (Norval) Nelson, Earl Levisen, Doris Levisen, Donald (Lorraine) Levisen, Paul Levisen; and a great grandson, Christian Hickman.

Those left to cherish Erma’s memory are her husband, Arnold Levisen; children Janet (Jerry) Hickman, Brenda Morey and Annette (Todd) Bock; grandchildren, Jennifer (Jeremy) Vorland, Bradley (Laura) Hickman, Amy (Mike) Peterson, Mark (Kelly) Hickman, Tarek Morey, Crystal (Chris) Burgess, and Scott Bock; great-grandchildren, Levi, Wade, Reid and Arthur; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Myron (Patricia) Levisen, Dolly Levisen and Maurine Levisen; as well as many nieces, nephews and other loving relatives.
