The garage of a home on Bridge Avenue was damaged by fire Thursday night.

Albert Lea Fire Department Capt. Scott Hanna said a neighbor reported seeing heavy smoke at 11:45 p.m. coming from an unattached garage at 927 Bridge Ave. The garage is set back behind the house.

When firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke coming from the structure and found the corner on fire.

Hanna said the fire was extinguished, and though it is damaged, the garage is not a total loss.

“It’s a good example of where someone saw a fire, reported it, and instead of it being the entire building already on fire, we have a three-minute response to when they saw heavy smoke coming out of it it,” he said.

Two shifts of firefighters responded to the blaze. The cause has not yet been determined, and the fire remains under investigation.
