Leona Herman, 88, Glenville

Funeral services for Leona Ella Herman of Glenville will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at First Lutheran Church in Glenville. The Rev. James Rushton will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Glenville.
Leona died on Friday, Jan. 17, 2014, at her home in Glenville. She was 88 years of age.
Leona was born May 29, 1925, in New Richland, the daughter of Herman and Phoebe Anna (Howe) Matthies. She graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1943. On Oct. 29, 1943, she was united in marriage to Verle Herman at the First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea.
Leona had been employed by Queens Products, was the city assessor for Glenville and was with Four Seasons Fountain Products. She had also been a member of the Elks Club.
Leona enjoyed crafts, sewing, ceramics, quilting, knitting, camping and travel. She loved to read, feed the birds and spend time with her family — especially her grandchildren.
Leona is survived by her children Karin Nelson of Albert Lea, Richard (Jeanne) Herman of Emmons, David Herman of Glenville and Phillip (Linda) Herman of Blaine; grandchildren Shari Nelson, Jackie (Brian) Otterson, Randy (Angie) Harmdierks, Krista (Mike) Honsey and Lisa (Chad) Peterson; great-grandchildren Brandon (Melissa) Burnett, Cody and Brooke Otterson, Marley, Harper and Haydon Honsey and Claire and Norah Peterson; great-great-grandchildren Isaac and Olivia; one sister-in-law, Bonnie Hengestad of Northwood; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters LuLu Epland, Mildred Lucas and Anna Phoebe Matthies; and sister-in-law, Mary Jean Jaspers.
