Glenville-Emmons senior aspires to be a diesel mechanic

Q: What year are you in school?

A: Senior.

 

Q: What school do you attend?

A: Glenville-Emmons.

 

Q: Who is your immediate family?

A: Rob and Tracy Haines are my parents. I have two brothers, Joey and Jesse and a sister, Jennaca. Joey is 21, Jesse’s 6 and Jennaca is 19.

 

Q: What sports are you involved in?

A: I play football and basketball. I used to play baseball, but we don’t have that anymore.

 

Q: What is your favorite part of playing basketball?

A: The best part is spending time with my friends and competing.

 

Q: What has playing basketball taught you?

A: I need to work hard to get better and you’ve got to work together as a team.

 

Q: What number are you?

A: I’m No. 23 in basketball and No. 7 in football.

 

Q: How did you get started in basketball?

A: I started when I was really young, and I’ve been playing it ever since. My uncle, Ranger Hall, was a basketball coach here a while back, so my cousins and I played when we were little.

 

Q: What sports did your family members play?

A: My mom was a cheerleader and played basketball. My little brother will probably play basketball.

 

Q: What are your sports-related achievements?

A: I was on the Tribune’s All-Area football honorable mention list this year.

 

Q: What are your sports-related goals? 

A: I want to win three playoff games and make it to the Mayo Civic Center in Rochester for the section finals.

 

Q: What are your college plans? 

A: I’m planning to go to South Central College in Mankato to be a diesel mechanic. Both my uncles are farmers and my mom grew up on a farm.

 

Q: Who is your favorite professional athlete? Why?

A: Adrian Peterson and Cam Newton. They’re just fun to watch.

 

Q: What is your favorite school subject? 

A: Math. I’m taking accounting right now, and I took Algebra II last year.

 

Q: Who is your favorite teacher? 

A: Jillian Westrum.

 

Q: What are your hobbies? 

A: Other than basketball, there’s hunting and farming and riding my four-wheeler and dirt bike. I’ve got a Honda 250R (dirt bike).

 

Q: What is your dream job?

A: That’s tough. I’ll say to be a professional basketball player.

 

Q: What is your favorite TV show?

A: ESPN’s “Sportscenter.”

 

Q: What is your favorite food?

A: Mashed potatoes and gravy.

 

Q: What is an interesting fact about you?

A: I started out wrestling at Albert Lea until I was 8. Then I switched to basketball.
