He attended school in Glenville and graduated from Glenville High School in 1966. He graduated from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting in 1970.
Mike worked for the accounting firm of Peat, Marwick, Mitchell and Co. in Chicago after college. He made his way out West, where he worked for Smith’s Food in Salt Lake City, Utah, ran the Pizza Peddler in Bend, Ore., and oversaw a campground in Caineville, Utah, near Zion National Park. He most recently was employed at Shade Tree Liquor in Northwood.
Mike especially loved spending time in nature, camping under the stars, taking pictures, sailing, skiing in the mountains and hiking. In 2001, Mike moved back to Northwood where he was able to spend time with family and friends. He enjoyed helping Gary Sola with the harvest every fall. Although he never had any children of his own, he always took great joy in his many nieces and nephews, talking and laughing with them and giving advice whenever they would ask. They were all proud to call him Uncle Mike.
Michael is survived by brothers John Foss and wife, Thelma, (Jacobson) Foss of Albert Lea and Paul Foss and wife, Genie, (Garnas) Foss of Northwood; sister-in-law, Crystal (Gilbertson) Foss Eack of Menominee, Mich.; many nieces and nephews; and good friends Gary and Marcia Sola.
