Ascension Lutheran Church Women
The Ascension Lutheran Church Women of ELCA held their monthly meeting at 9:25 a.m. Jan. 12.
Prior to the meeting, at the 8:15 a.m. service, the Rev. Mark Boorsma installed officers. They are: Co-Presidents Doris Guenthner and Denise Sandager, Secretary Lorraine Schaper, Treasurer Cheryl Venem, Mission in Growth Joan Anderson, Mission in Action Ruth Furland, Mission in Community Mary Boorsma and Prayer Coordinator Elaine Struck.
Sandager called the 9:25 a.m. meeting to order and read information on King Wenceslas relating to the popular “Christmas Carol.”
The secretary’s report was given by Schaper.
Venem gave the treasurer’s report. The report will be placed on file for audit. Venem reported that 311 cookbooks had been sold and there are only about 100 left.
A motion was made by Marilyn Danielsen and seconded by Alice Jensen to place the proceeds from the cookbook sales aside to use toward purchasing blinds for the fellowship hall. The motion carried.
Committee reports: Anderson reported help was received through East Freeborn Attic with Mary Jensen for some furnishing items for an apartment for a new friend of Ascension.
Venem reported she had disbursed for Mission in Action to Furland to help the quilting group to purchase quilting supplies they may have needed.
Jane Samuelsen reported that nice progress has been made in regards to kitchen food safety. Glove box holders have been placed in different areas of the kitchen. Many have done the food safety class, and she will be scheduling future training opportunities. Sanitizers will be placed for going through the serving line and also to make available for communion. Any suggestions should be directed to Samuelsen, the parish nurse.
New updates for the 2014 handbook were addressed by co-presidents Sandager and Guenthner.
The next meeting between services will be Feb. 9.
The meeting adjourned with the Lord’s prayer.
