Police ask people to move cars

The Albert Lea Police Department is reminding residents of the city’s ordinance for parking, especially during winter.
The ordinance states vehicles have to be moved every 12 hours, said Lt. Darren Hanson.
After a snowfall and the plows have finished their routes, police will go through the city looking for automobiles that have not been moved. The officers will put an orange warning tag on the vehicles, notifying owners that they have 12 hours to move them.
After 12 hours, officers can issue citations to owners whose vehicles have not been moved.
“The whole goal is to get the streets cleared and allow the plows to do their job,” Hanson said. “It benefits everyone to get the streets cleared.”
There have been a handful of automobiles towed this year, he said.
He noted people should try to move their vehicles far enough away so the plow can clear where they were parked. Or they could move them to the other side of the road.
“Don’t park where it hasn’t been plowed,” Hanson said.
