Glenville-Emmons head coach Jared Matson said he liked the patience his team showed in the first half and early second.

“That’s how we like to play. We like to slow it down and grind it out,” he said. “We’ll work for a layup and get a stop. Unfortunately, they got hot and hit a few 3-pointers, and we dug ourselves our own hole.”

Derek Van Ryswyk led the Wolverines with a double-double: 14 points and 10 rebounds. He also had four assists and four blocks.

“He works hard, and he always does a good job,” Matson said. “Every team knows he’s our best shooter, but he still finds a way to get his 10, 12 points a night.”

Van Ryswyk, a freshman, said the the Wolverines played as a unit the first half, but in the second half, it fell apart.

“We’re good as a team when we work together, but as soon as we start doing our own stuff, we struggle,” he said.

Aaron Dempewolf of Glenville-Emmons scored eight points and grabbed six rebounds, and Justice Haines added seven points and five rebounds.

Glenville-Emmons was one for 10 from the free-throw line, which was something Matson said he hopes will improve.

The Wolverines (7-15 overall, 4-11 Southeastern Conference) have four regular season games left before the Section 1A tournament.
