Ila died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014, at St. John’s Lutheran Community.

Ila Marlene Hibbard was born on Nov. 14, 1933, in Alexandria, the daughter of Albin and Edith (Sizer) Dahlstrom. She grew up in Alexandria and graduated from Alexandria High School in 1951. She went to nursing school at Abbott Northwestern School of Nursing, graduating as a registered nurse. On Nov. 21, 1954, Ila was united in marriage to Chesley F. Hibbard at First Lutheran Church in Alexandria. Ila worked as a registered nurse. for Abbott Northwestern and later Naeve Hospital. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea, the Elks Lodge, the Naeve Hospital Alumni Association and the Sunset Saddle Club. Ila’s hobbies included bowling, cooking, horses and being active in a neighborhood circle. At First Lutheran Church, she was a volunteer with the ladies circles. She spent several years as a volunteer for both the American Cancer Society and the American Red Cross. She especially enjoyed travel, spending time with her family, playing cards and dominoes.

Survivors include her children Mike (Denise) Hibbard, Jon (Misty Volk) Hibbard and Jay (Jolene) Hibbard and grandchildren Erin, Ian, Ryan, Kalsey, Laura, Lynsey and Kayla.

Ila was preceded in death by her parents, her stepmother, and her husband, Chesley.
