Funeral services for Jill Mathiason, 62, of Alden, will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Alden. The Rev. Greg Ofsdahl will officiate. Interment will be at Alden Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Online condolences are welcome at www.bayviewfuneral.com.
Jill died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.
Jill Ann Mathiason was born on Jan. 5, 1952, to Robert Rasmussen and Janet (Wayne) Niebuhr in Albert Lea. She grew up in Alden and graduated from Alden-Conger High School in 1970. On Sept. 20, 1970, Jill was united in marriage to Glen Mathiason at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Alden. Jill began working for the Alden Advance as a writer and a bookkeeper. Lately, Jill was working for Freeborn’s Pride Builders as a bookkeeper. She enjoyed being a farmer’s wife and doing the book work for the farm. Jill took great pride in her well-maintained yard and flowers. She was an active member at Redeemer Lutheran Church, where she was active in numerous committees. Redeemer was a very important part of her life. She enjoyed volunteering for many different organizations and going up north. Most of all, Jill enjoyed time spent with her family and friends, especially Bryn and Noah. Everyone knew they could count on Jill. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her, blessed be her memory.
Survivors include her husband, Glen; daughter, Shannan Nelson; grandchildren, Bryn and Noah Nelson; stepfather, Ken Niebuhr; brother, Mark (Lynnette) Rasmussen; mother-in-law, Ardis Mathiason; brother-in-law, Bob (Cindy) Mathiason; sister-in-law, Mary Reyerson; nephews and nieces Tim (Anne) Rasmussen, James (Melissa) Rasmussen, Rob (Camille) Rasmussen, Sara (Josh) Stieler, Sheila (Shawn) Riebe, Jayne (Shawn) Linn and Kendra and Krista Mathiason; and many great nephews, great nieces, special cousins and friends.
Jill was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Rasmussen and Janet Niebuhr, brother, Paul Rasmussen, and father-in-law, Anker Mathiason.
In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the 2013 building fund at Redeemer Lutheran Church or the American Heart Association.
