Organization: Taste of Heritage
Project: Annual Taste of Heritage
Report: April 6, 2014, will be the fifth annual Taste of Heritage at Northbridge Mall from 1 to 3 p.m. It is a concerted effort by many volunteers in the community to create an opportunity for people from across the various ethnic populations to come together to learn about each other’s culture and history. There are always specific activities for children as well as adults. The two hours are filled with ethnic entertainment and visiting cultural exhibits. The effort began with three individuals who came back from a Blandin Community Leadership Program with the idea of how to build an inclusive community. It has grown to more than 15 committed planning committee members, and last year more than 350 children participated in the Passport Program. The Passport Program gives them an opportunity to experience what it is like to “travel” to different countries and learn about the culture.
