Funeral services for Stella LuVina Mathiason, 90, of Alden, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Alden. The Rev. Greg Ofsdahl will officiate. Interment will be at Carlston Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Online condolences are welcome at www.bayviewfuneral.com.

Stella died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014, at St. John’s Lutheran Community.

Stella LuVina Mathiason was born on July 16, 1923, to Ole and Selma (Brekke) Selland in Scarville, Iowa. She grew up in Kiester and attended school in Kiester. On April 30, 1949, Stella was united in marriage to Arnold Mathiason in Alden. Stella spent many years working on the farm with Arnold. She later worked as a supervisor for Land O Lakes, retiring in 1988. Stella was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Alden and the Alden Homemakers Club. She enjoyed knitting and cake decorating.

Survivors include her son, Carl Mathiason of Alden; grandson Brett (fianceé Heidi) Mathiason of Slayton; great-grandchildren Max and Kane Mathiason; sisters-in-law Ardis Mathiason of Alden and Dagmar Jacobson of Rice Lake, Wis.; special niece, Coni Tuberty; nieces Eileen Holt, Jane (Sherm) DeZeeuw; and nephews Jerry (Doris)Smith, Jeff (Sandy) Duncan, Joel (Diane) Duncan, Jon (Sandy) Duncan, Glen Mathiason, Bob (Cindy) Mathiason and James Jacobson.

Stella was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arnold; daughter Shirley Ann Marie in infancy; sister Anna Brekke; nephew Ron Smith; and niece Jill Mathiason.
