FOLEY — The Benton County attorney put his high school football skills to the test when he chased down and tackled a man who was trying to flee the courthouse.

Philip Miller said he was in the courtroom Thursday during the sentencing of a man who faced a lengthy prison in a drug case.

Miller noticed the man seemed agitated, so he went to get another bailiff as a precaution. Then, he saw the man run out of the courtroom and come toward him in the hallway.

The defendant was headed toward the exit when Miller said he “took him out at the knees.”

Miller’s eyeglasses broke during the incident, but he wasn’t hurt.

He said his old coach at Apollo High School would have been proud.
