‘Check It Out’ chess tournament winners

Thirty students participated in the second annual “Check It Out” chess tournament on March 22. Brechin Hoechst, a Lakeview Elementary student, came in first, with Seth Petersen, a Hayfield student, coming in second. In third place were Will Isaacson from Sibley Elementary, and Ethan Battle from Halverson Elementary. Sportsmanship winner was Ava Corey-Gruenes from Lakeview. Her name was drawn from a group of 12 students who displayed exceptional sportsmanship traits. Pictured are the first-and second-place winners, Breckin Hoechst, left, and Seth Petersen. – Submitted
