EMMONS — Jokes and darts flew Monday night as the Brotherhood Dartball League had its end-of-season banquet at Emmons Lutheran Church.

Ascension finished out the season in first with a 32-4 record. Lunder-Round Prairie finished second with a record of 30-6, and Crossroads was third at 29-7. The league held a banquet where food was served by the Conger-Bear Lake team along with jokes and league updates before playing one final tournament for the season.

Each season typically runs from mid-November through March, and the league meets for about 15 matches of three games each. League member Lonny Hagen said the number of games was cut short this year thanks to inclement weather.

The league has been around for about 60 years, starting in mainly Lutheran churches in its early days and branching out ever since. Hagen himself said he’s been in the league for over 20 years, and was first introduced to it by his uncle.

League treasurer and secretary Al Krueger’s been involved with the league for closer to 40 years, and first got involved with it through his church.

As the tables and chairs were folded up and moved to the side after dinner, and the games were getting ready to begin, Hagen said that heckling is welcome but said good sportsmanship is always present.

“It’s just a fun night out with the guys in a good, Christian atmosphere,” said Hagen. “It really is about brotherhood.”
