DFL Party deserves coverage, too

I am very upset because the DFL County Convention on March 22 was not covered as the GOP convention was covered because the editor did not think it was news. I beg to differ because we have some new people running for office also.

The first one is Tina Smith who is running for lieutenant governor with Mark Dayton. She has been his assistant and is very qualified for the job as she already knows what. He is planning for the next session.

Also Steve Simon is a passionate young man, who has been working with Mark Richie as chairman of the House Elections Committee and advocates reform,  protecting and expanding voter rights, is running for the Secretary of State.

Also running for Secretary of State is Debra Hilstrom. She is chairwoman of the Judiciary Committee and and an Assistant Anoka County Attorney, who advocates fair elections and representing the blue collar District and has won 7 elections to the state Legislature. Both are very qualified.

Being the legislature has balanced the State Budget, has a 1.2 billion surplus and is able to give some tax refunds besides paying the debt that was owed the schools and the now early education program component includes Early Learning Scholarships, the Early Childhood Family Education Program and School Readiness Aid, and also makes investments that focus on K-12 academic achievements.

This just shows that advances in many areas can be gained, when people work together and are responsible about there positions in the legislature.

Editor’s note: We felt the DFL Party’s local candidates for House District 27A and Senate District 27, as well as their preferences for governor, already were determined as they had the incumbents. There have been years when the roles were reversed. We do appreciate your informative letter.
