If you’re a fan of the film “Legally Blonde,” you are sure to enjoy Alden-Conger High School’s production of “Legally Blonde: The Musical.”

The musical is based on the novel by Amanda Brown and on the motion picture and is centered around the character Elle Woods, who is played by senior Kendall Ward.

Elle seems to have it all, but that changes when her boyfriend, Warner, breaks up with her as he goes off to Harvard Law School and tries to get more serious. Elle comes up with a plan to win him back, involving getting into Harvard herself. As she struggles with the intensity of law school and conflicts with her peers, she begins to see her own potential.

The drama department at Alden-Conger has had a few struggles of their own putting the musical together. The cast and crew missed a number of school day and weekend practices due to inclement weather.

“It’s quite a challenge to miss rehearsals and then come back and make progress,” said Director Ada Theusch, a vocal teacher at the high school.

Despite not having as much practice time as they originally planned, Theusch is feeling good about the upcoming performances. “Things are really coming together; I’m really excited.”

Theusch and her assistant director, agriculture teacher Pam Koenen, have been working with a professional choreographer to bring the production together.

“This is the first time we’re working with professional choreographer Dylan Kaercher,” Theusch said. “The kids are being challenged to pull off singing and dancing simultaneously.”

The cast and crew, along with Theusch, are ready to perform this weekend.

“It’s a really upbeat and modern show… this show will be a success,” Theusch said.

After performing a full dress rehearsal for classmates at the high school Thursday, performances of “Legally Blonde: The Musical” will be at 7 p.m. today and Saturday, along with a 2 p.m. showing on Sunday at Alden-Conger High School.
