The Albert Lea fifth-grade girls’ traveling basketball team finished its season at a tournament in Fairmont on Feb. 15. At the beginning of the season, Albert Lea head coach Chris Utz was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a cancer of plasma cells, a type of white blood cell in bone marrow. The team responded by wearing headbands all season that had “Team Utz” printed on them. T-shirts were also made that said, “Nobody fights alone with Team Utz.” Front row from left are Erin Utz, Zoe Sadauskis, Mallory Luhring, Shelley Bush, Ashlyn Yost and Dyna Bolinger. Back row from left are coach Utz, Regina Riemann, Isabelle Wilson, Laney Collier, Cassidy Stromley, Madi Fleek and coach Jay Collier. — Submitted
