Most regular Tribune readers learned the ice-out date for Fountain Lake this spring was April 13, later than the median date in a century of record-keeping of April 9, but a Tribune reader wanted to know what the ice-out date for Albert Lea Lake.

That’s an easy request to look up.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources places April 12 as the ice-out date for Albert Lea Lake. The staff at the Myre-Big Island State Park keeps track of it. The records go back to 1991, with the years 1993 and 1995 skipped. The median ice-out date is March 31. The earliest is March 5, in 2000. The latest is April 18, last year.
