Helyn Marie Langlie was born on Feb. 11, 1920, in Freeborn County, the daughter of Richard and Christine (Christensen) Hanson. She attended Baarson Rural School and then Ellendale High School.
On Oct. 26, 1935, she was united in marriage to Athan Langlie at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Helyn was a homemaker and worked alongside her husband on their farm. She was a member of Flying Farmers, where she served as their queen in 1962. Helyn also was a radio correspondent for KRFO in Owatonna for seven years. Her church was very important to her where she served as president from 1964 to 1965 of the FLCW, taught Sunday school and was active wherever she was needed in the church. She enjoyed gardening, especially growing her strawberries, and crocheting.
Helyn is survived by her children Barbara (Dale) Mrotz, Jerry (JoAnne) Langlie, Bruce Langlie and Julie Langlie; grandchildren Monty (Toni) Mrotz, Lisa Morin, Victor (Kellie) Mrotz, Dan Mrotz, Cody Blouin and Jason Langlie; great-grandchildren Mikkel Iverson, Jami Marzolf, Victoria Mrotz, Hudson Mrotz, Sophia Mrotz and Justin Mrotz; great-great-grandchildren Tyler Iverson, Ethan, Logan and Riley Marzolf; sisters Carole Schember and Phyllis (Eugene) Hagen; sisters-in-law Phyllis Hanson, Henrietta Lee, Sylvia Langlie and Stella Langlie; and many nieces and nephews.
