Regarding a letter titled “Welfare takes from the earners” in the March 30 paper: I was very impressed with the writer’s expansive vocabulary but not his philosophy. As usual, the right is quick to be against something but seldom follows with a solution.

What about the millions of folks who, even though they try hard, cannot make it with the high cost of life in America today? Maybe the right would have us reinstitute the final solution.

I would much rather live in a society where people are ready and willing to care for one another than one that lives by the rule of survival of the fittest.
