ST. PAUL — A woman who lost her husband in the 2009 Fort Hood shootings said she can empathize with the families of the three killed.
Shoua Her’s husband, Private First Class Kham Xiong (SHONG), was among 13 killed at the Texas military base in November 2009.
She lives in North St. Paul and said the military isn’t doing its job to increase security on base. She also said war veterans may need more mental health help.
Authorities said the soldier who killed three people Wednesday, Spc. Ivan Lopez, may have argued with another service member before the attack, and investigators believe his unstable mental health contributed. Lopez later shot himself in the head.
Last fall, military jurors sentenced Maj. Nidal Hasan to death for the 2009 shootings.
