The Albert Lea High School band department will present its final concert of the year next week.
The performance will be at 7 p.m. Monday in the high school auditorium and will feature the Tiger band, symphonic band and concert band. Tickets are available at the door and are $7 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. Children preschool and under are free. Family music passes and senior passes are good for the event.
Various awards will be presented at the concert, including the John Phillip Sousa Award for band and the Louis Armstrong Award for jazz. Graduating seniors will be recognized.
Each band was given the opportunity to help choose one of their songs for the concert. The Tiger band, which is made up of eighth- and ninth-grade students, chose a medley of music from the movie “Frozen.” They will also perform “In This Quiet Place” and “Blazon.”
The ninth- and tenth-grade symphonic band chose a medley of movie songs by John Williams, including the themes from “Star Wars” and “Jurassic Park.” They are also performing “Aztec Fire” and “Lord of the Dance.”
The concert band, made up of mostly juniors and seniors, chose a medley from the Beatles album “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.” They will also perform their Big Nine Music Festival program, which includes “Festivo” by Vaclav Nelhybel, “Rhosymedre,” by Ralph Vaughan Williams and arranged by Walter Beeler, and “Alligator Alley” by Michael Dougherty.
All three groups are led by ALHS director of bands, Suzanne Mauer.
