Brian N. Lien, 61, of Moorhead died Wednesday, May 7, 2014, in the Fargo Veterans Administration Hospital in Fargo, N.D.

Brian Noel Lien was born on Dec. 22, 1952, in Moorhead to James and Shirley (Wilkinson) Lien. He grew up in Downer, where he attended and graduated from Barnesville High School.

Following his graduation, Brian served in the United States Navy from 1971 to 1975. He returned from the military and went on to attend technical college in the Albert Lea area, where he met and married his wife, Joann (Bergland) Lien, on May 7, 1977.

They returned to Moorhead, where he worked for Koste Brothers until he started his employment with the U.S. Post Office in Fargo, where he worked as a mail handler for 25 years. He was a postal union representative and a member of the American Legion in Moorhead.

Brian’s quick wit and sarcastic sense of humor will be remembered by all his friends, family and acquaintances. Brian loved fishing, singing karaoke and watching the Minnesota Twins and Vikings. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren, watching them grow, making them laugh and spoiling them with ice cream.

Brian is survived by his wife, Joann; daughters Teresa (Dean) Johnson of Perley, Shawna (Kevin) Steen of Maplewood and Jerralee (Will) Storbakken of Moorhead; niece, Maggie (Atan) Beganovic, of Fargo; sister, Marsha Canada, of Moorhead; brother, Rodney (Diane) Lien of Mille Lacs; Jane Lien of Grand Junction, Colo.; six grandchildren, Nicholas, Allison, Tyler, Brooke, Emily and Breanne; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Brian is preceded in death by his parents, James and Shirley Lien; brother, Donald “Chink” Lien; his niece, Nicole Canada, and father-in-law, Truman Bergland.

There will be a memorial gathering from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at Wright Funeral Home in Moorhead.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Moorhead.
