BENSON — Students are safe after a kindergartner brought a gun to school.
Swift County Sheriff John Holtz said other students at Northside Elementary became aware of the firearm Tuesday morning and notified a teacher. The gun was confiscated. Authorities said there was no apparent intent by the child to cause harm.
Benson Police Chief Ian Hodge said the kindergartner was about 5 years old and brought the gun to school to show a friend. The school district has a zero tolerance for weapons, but the superintendent has discretion in determining a course of action for the student.
