Salvation Army needs volunteers

As the fourth annual Salvation Army Donut Day draws near the local chapter finds itself short of volunteers and the normal matching funds that drive the excitement of this growing the event, according to a press release.
In many locations the Salvation Army holds the annual event to increase visibility and raise much-needed summer slump funds. Most commonly found in larger metropolitan areas, Donut Days has found its way to Albert Lea. Spurred on by the leadership from its advisory board, the Albert Lea Salvation Army has worked for several years trying to find the right event to stretch their dollars.
The Salvation Army needs to raise $20,000 to meet its annual budgetary needs. Those interested in helping can sponsor part of the match monies as a challenge to their community. In years past the Salvation Army has had sponsorships in increments up to $15,000 or half of the goal. This year the goal is $10,000.
Others interested in volunteering can call the Salvation Army at 507-373-5710 and sign up for a 2-hour shift at a local retailer to help represent the Salvation Army and collect donations.
Donations can also be made by dropping off a check to the Albert Lea Salvation Army at 302 Court St. or by giving to volunteers carrying donut boxes on Friday and Saturday.
