Freeborn County 4th District Commissioner Christopher Shoff said he is excited to announce his candidacy for re-election.
Shoff was first elected in 2006 and served as chairman of the board of commissioners in 2009, 2010 and 2014.
In a press release sent Thursday, Shoff, of Albert Lea, talked about some of the accomplishments he has been a part of on the county board. He said the county has continued searching for new revenue streams.
Of those, he said he played an integral part on securing and maintaining the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement contract for the jail and helped secure the new Veterans Affairs community-based outpatient clinic. He has also been a part of the upcoming acquisition of the abandoned Union Pacific Railroad line and the Bent Tree Wind project.
He said he thinks the county must continue thinking progressively in its pursuit of new revenue sources and future economic growth.
Shoff filed Tuesday but could not be reached for comment for a story that printed Wednesday.
Shoff serves on the Association of Minnesota Counties transportation committee, as well as the National Association of Counties Transportation Steering Committee. He served as the Association of Minnesota Counties second vice president in 2013 and as 1st vice president this year.
If re-elected, he will become president. This would be the first time a Freeborn County commissioner has served in this position.
There were no other major filings Thursday.
