Arthur Erickson, 1924-2014

Arthur Raymond Erickson, 90, of Blooming Prairie, died Friday, June 6, 2014, at his home. He was born May 11, 1924 in Decorah, Iowa, to Harry and Gina (Ramsey) Erickson.

From an early age Art grew up in the Albert Lea Area. On May 25, 1947, Art married Anna Mae Anderson at East Freeborn Lutheran Church in rural Albert Lea.

For the first 10 years of their marriage they farmed near Chester, Iowa, before moving to their farm in Blooming Prairie Township. Art retired from farming in 1979 and in 1990 he and Anna moved into Blooming Prairie. He was a longtime member of First Lutheran Church in Blooming Prairie and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #2258 in Albert Lea.

Art enjoyed his home and tinkering in the garage. He loved animals, especially his two cats, and often cared for strays and neglected animals when needed. In their younger days, he and Anna enjoyed dancing to polka music and Saturday night dances at the Albert Lea Eagles Club.

Survivors include his children, David (Marie) Erickson, of Brooklyn Park and Nancy (Brad) Clark, of Blooming Prairie; grandchildren, Heather (Jim) Bruggeman, of Austin and David Clark, of Winona; great grandson, Casey Bruggeman; brothers, Norton (Ruby) Erickson, of North Branch, Dale Erickson, of Arden Hills and Glenn (Diane) Erickson, of Maple Grove.

Art was preceded in death by his wife, Anna M. Erickson in 2005, parents, and sister, Mae Christiansen.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Lutheran Church in Blooming Prairie, with the Rev. Charles Leonard and the Rev. Heidi Heimgartner officiating. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. on Monday at Worlein Blooming Prairie Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Interment will be in Blooming Prairie Cemetery.
