BRAINERD — Authorities have released the name of a Sartell man who drowned in a lake near Brainerd.

The Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office says 44-year-old Gary Steichen was on a pontoon with friends on Clearwater Lake, east of Brainerd, Thursday when he and a group of people went into the water to swim.

Steichen did not resurface, and sheriff’s officials were called.

Reports say sheriff’s officials found Steichen around 5 p.m. in 20 feet of water.
