The city of Albert Lea Street Department began placing a chip seal on streets in the East Johnson Street area on Thursday. They have placed temporary No Parking signs in preparation for this work. Streets to be chip sealed include:
• St. Thomas Avenue from Main Street to the railroad
• Columbus Avenue from Main Street to Johnson Street
• Ulstad Avenue from Main Street to Johnson Street
• Edgewood Avenue from Johnson Street to Sheridan Street
• Ulstad Avenue from Sheridan Street to Hawthorne Street
• Sherwood Avenue from Johnson Street to State Street
• Wayside Avenue from Stevens Road to State Street
• Ramsey Street from the railroad to Edgewood Avenue
• Johnson Street from Columbus Avenue to Wayside Avenue
• Sheridan Street from Ulstad Avenue to Cherry Avenue
• Hawthorne Street from the railroad to Ulstad Avenue
• Cherry Avenue from Johnson Street to Sheridan Street
• State Street from Sherwood Avenue to Wayside Avenue
Chip sealing involves coating the street with an asphalt emulsion and then placing a protective layer of rock over the fresh oil.
The roadways will not be closed during the chip sealing process, but the city asks that people drive with care and use extra caution on these streets when the chip sealing operations are occurring. There may be minor delays and disruptions in parking.
