Frieda Parrish, 1919-2014

Funeral services for Frieda C. Parrish of Albert Lea will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. The Rev. James Kassera will officiate. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Bonnerup Funeral Service in Albert Lea and one hour before the service at the church.

Frieda died Monday, July 14, 2014, at Good Samaritan Society of Albert Lea. She was 94.

She was born Dec. 27, 1919, in rural Dexter, the daughter of George and Elsie (Studer) Schwartz. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Dexter, and then graduated from Elkton High School.

Frieda married Randall W. Parrish on May 28, 1944, at Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Dexter.

In 1952, the couple made Albert Lea their home. They enjoyed 60 years of married life.

In the early years, Frieda stayed home and raised their children Gary, Jerral and Janice.

She later cooked at the Townhouse and Kahler Hotel.

She enjoyed sewing, embroidery, playing cards, traveling and vegetable and flower gardening.

Family meant everything to Frieda and she enjoyed baking and cooking for them.

Frieda was a very active member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. She so enjoyed helping and participating in any church activities, which included teaching Sunday school, Bible study and ladies aid.

Frieda is survived by two children, Gary (Carolyn) Parrish of Butterfield and Janice (John) Kasperek of Eagan; grandson, Daniel Kasperek, of Hastings; brother, Norman Schwartz, of Austin; sisters-in-law Leona Schwartz of Northfield, Donna Schwartz of Dexter, Delores Parrish of Owatonna and Mavis Parrish of Albert Lea; and several nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Randall; her son, Jerral; daughters-in-law Linda Parrish and Lois Parrish; sisters Caroline Beckman and Marion Kessel; brothers Ervin, Earl, Ray, Henry, William and Elmer; nephew, Wayne Thursdale; niece, Sharon Reed; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Joyce Schwartz, Dorothy Schwartz, Loretta Schwartz, Muriel Schwartz, Irvin Beckman, Don Kessel, Ferne and Daniel Thursdale, Lyle Parrish and Eugene Parrish.

Frieda was a strong Christian woman, brave and courageous through all the trials of her life.

Frieda was loved by all who knew her; she will be greatly missed.
