Funeral services for Laurene D. Rasmussen Farland will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Alden. The Rev. Greg Ofsdahl will officiate. Interment will be in Owatonna Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Laurene died Sunday, July 6, 2014, at St. John’s Lutheran Community.

Laurene Delores Rasmussen Farland was born Oct. 5, 1919, in Owatonna, the daughter of Frank and Florence (Snyder) Harlicker. She grew up there and graduated from Owatonna High School.

In 1939 Laurene was married to Vernon Rasmussen. They moved to Conger in 1951. Vernon passed away in 1963. In 1965 Laurene married Albert Wichmann. He also preceded her in death two years later. Laurene married Ed Farland in 1974 and the couple moved to Fairmont.

During her life Laurene worked for Skinner-Chamberlain Department Store, the Conger School and Harold’s Shoes in Fairmont. Following Ed’s death, Laurene moved to Alden. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Alden and active in the Mary Circle and the Busy Fingers Group there. She also belonged to the Alden Homemakers Club. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, cooking and baking. Laurene volunteered at the Alden High School and liked listening to country music, particularly Danny O’Donnell. She also liked gardening and flowers. Her greatest love was spending time with her family. Blessed be her memory.

Survivors include her children Luverne (Kay) Rasmussen of Albert Lea, Carl (Paulette) Rasmussen of Alden and Barb (Ken) Rasmussen of Marshalltown, Iowa; daughter-in-law, LaVonne Rasmussen of Mukilteo, Wa.; stepsons Dick (Jan) Farland of Virginia and Roger (Karen) Farland of Swea City, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; sisters–in-law Lillian Rasmussen and Gladys Rasmussen; and son-in-law, Gayle Kuethe.

Laurene was preceded in death by her husbands Vernon Rasmussen, Albert Wichmann and Ed Farland; her parents; brothers Harold and Floyd Harlicker; son, Larry Rasmussen; daughter, Kathy Kuethe; seven brothers-in-law; six sisters-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials are preferred to the Mayo Clinic Health System Hospice in Albert Lea or to the Redeemer Lutheran Church building project in Alden.
