HAYWARD — The Hayward Interstate 90 rest area east of Albert Lea will have temporary daytime closures that began Tuesday as Minnesota Department of Transportation crews repair the highway ramps and parking lots.
The Hayward rest area serves eastbound traffic at milepost 162 about three miles east of the junction of Interstates 35 and 90.
The rest area will be closed from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day during the work and will re-open each afternoon. Work, weather permitting, is expected to be completed by Thursday.
Currently, the rest area only offers limited services because of construction to remodel and improve accessibility. Temporary, portable toilets will be available to travelers, but there is no running water. Parking will be restricted to the truck parking lot during the construction work.
The rest area is among several on I-90 that are being remodeled with improvements being made for traveler accessibility. The work is expected to be completed this month.
