Gladys Winter, 1917-2014

Gladys M. (Hill) Winter, 96, died Wednesday, July 30, 2014, at Circle of Life Hospice House in Bentonville, Ark. She was born Oct. 20, 1917, to Joseph and Minnie (Seck) Hill in Clifford, N.D. In 1920 she and her family moved to a farm near Thompson, Iowa. Gladys graduated from high school in Rake, Iowa.

On Dec. 1, 1938, she was united in marriage to John Winter. In 1951 she and John moved to their farm east of Geneva where they farmed, working side by side for over 50 years.

She and John spent many winters at their home in Arizona enjoying the beautiful weather. She loved gardening, baking, reading and spending time with friends and family. Her last journey would take her to Bella Vista, Ark., to be near her daughter. She loved sitting outdoors enjoying the warm Arkansas sun.

Survivors include son, Alan (Karen) Winter, of Golden Valley, Ariz.; daughter, Judith Deml, of Bella Vista; grandchildren Kelli Winter (fiancé, Steve Terrell), of Woodbury, Deidre Hinkle (Robert) of Albert Lea, Adam Deml (Suzann) of Bella Vista and step-granddaughter, Michele Campbell-Hernandez (Juan), of Tulsa, Okla. Great-grandchildren include Hannah, Nathan, Dan, Kyle and Nick; step-great-grandchildren Brooklen, Brackston, Emilio and Mina; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, John; brother, Wilmar Hill; sister, Irene Gullord; and son-in-law, Patrick Deml.

The memory of Gladys will be treasured by her family. She was a kind and loving mom and grandma. She will be greatly missed.

From 2 to 5 p.m. Sept. 6 friends and family are invited to gather at Best Western in Albert Lea for a time of fellowship and sharing memories.

Memorials may be sent to hospice or the donor’s choice.
