Humane Society thankful to donors

The Freeborn County Humane Society held its annual Buckets on Broadway fundraising event on July 18 at the corners of Broadway and Main Street. This event is held each year to raise funds and awareness for the unwanted and stray animals of Albert Lea and Freeborn County. The funds are used to pay for vet bills and expenses for running the shelter.
This year we raised $3,854 for the daylong event. It was quite a bit short of what we were hoping to raise, but everything that was raised is greatly appreciated. It will be put to good use for the animals. If anyone was unable to donate that day but would like to still contribute, they can mail donations to P.O. Box 423 or drop donations off at the shelter at 101 James Avenue, south of the Pelican Breeze dock. For more information on helping the Humane Society, you can also give us a call 377-8501.
We would like to thank everyone who donated to our fundraiser this year. It’s great to see how much people care about the city and county animals that are in our care.
Also, a big “thank you” to the volunteers who stood on the corners. It gets to be a long day, but it is a fun time.
Thanks also to the city street department for the loan of the high visibility vests.
