Kenneth Niebuhr, 87, of Alden died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2014, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Thursday. The Rev. Kenneth Leslie Niebuhr was born Jan. 17, 1927, in Alden Township, Freeborn County, the son of Milton and Ella L. (Pestorious) Niebuhr. Kenneth graduated from Alden High School in 1945. He was an outstanding sports athlete for Alden High School.

He married Delores Behrends in 1947 and to this union two children were born, Susan and Steve, and the couple later divorced. In 1979 he was united in marriage to Janet (née Wayne) Rasmussen. Kenneth owned and operated Round Bay Resort in Park Rapids from 1976 to 1981. He had worked for Madison Silo Co., Standard Oil, Midwest Wire Steel, Callahan Steel Supply and was a real estate agent. He was an avid Twins fan and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He enjoyed trips to North Dakota and was a faithful follower of his grandchildren’s sporting events.

He is survived by his children Susan Niebuhr Karnick of Hastings and Steve (wife, Susie) Niebuhr of Sawyer, N.D.; stepson, Mark (Lynnette) Rasmussen, of Albert Lea; stepson-in-law, Glen Mathiason, of Alden; grandchildren Zachary and Skyler Niebuhr, Kristen Karnick, Tim (Anne) Rasmusson, Shannan Nelson, Sheila (Shawn) Riebe, James Rasmussen (Missy), Jayne (Shawn) Linn, Robert Rasmussen (Camille) and Sara (Josh) Stieler; numerous great-grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Janet; brother, Marvin (Marvel) Niebuhr; sister, Lois Brandt; stepson, Paul Rasmussen; and stepdaughter, Jill Mathiason.
