50 years ago: 1964
• Glenville eliminated Hayward from the State Line playoffs with a 15-5 victory. Glen Jensen was the winning pitcher, and Terry Adams had five hits in five at-bats for Glenville. Denny Lair homered for Hayward.
• First Lutheran won two straight games to win the All-Church League playoff title over St. Theodores. Ray Weitzel pitched a three-hitter in Game 1, and Cannonball Nelson hit a home run in First Lutheran’s 7-2 victory. Virg Ryan had three hits for St. Theodores, including a home run. First Lutheran won 11-10 in Game 2. Dean Wick homered for First Lutheran and Zeke Christianson homered for St. Theodores.
• In the Albert Lea Women’s Softball League, the Rockers defeated Wilson 20-4. Sis Knudsen and Kathy Marpe hit home runs for the Rockers.
• Albert Lea Federal defeated Schmidt/Elbow Room 13-1 in the first game of the Albert Lea Slowpitch League playoffs. Federal was led by Dave English and Dave Elvabek with three hits each, and Jim Malepsy with a home run and a triple.
25 years ago: 1989
• In the Minnesota Golf Association Junior Championships, Chad Adams of Albert Lea tied for sixth place with a 149. Other Albert Lea scores were Steve Peterson 151, Bucky Rasmussen 161, Chad Cliff 162 and Todd Intihar 162. Missy Boom of Albert Lea tied for fourth place with a 171 in the girls’ division.
• In the Southern Minny League Tournament, the Albert Lea girls placed third. Team members were Lisa Frame, Jenny Molden, Monica Mook, Jenny Ortgies, Stacy Knutson, Pam Tufte, Rochelle Dandrea, Steph Stadheim, Lori Coughlin, June White, Chris Hilman, Jeanne Dilling, Amy Beese, Sarah Schoenrock, Kim Diaz, Janelle Godtland, Christine Sorenson, Renae Kried and Amy Rayman.
10 years ago: 2004
• Chris Baas of Albert Lea won the 2004 Albert Lea City Open golf title for the fifth time, his fourth in five years. Mick Hockinson took second place with a score of 185.
