WEST ST. PAUL  — Minnesota law enforcement officials are asking the public to line a nearly 8-mile-long funeral procession route for slain Mendota Heights police officer Scott Patrick.

Officials expect 3,000 to 5,000 mourners to attend the funeral Wednesday in West St. Paul. The church sanctuary holds 350 people.

Officials will erect tents and install two large LED television screens for law enforcement outside St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church. The service will also be streamed on cable and YouTube.

Thousands of officers will lead the procession to Acacia Park Cemetery in Mendota Heights around noon. Patrick’s family and Mendota Heights officers will follow with the coffin about 20 to 30 minutes later.

Patrick was fatally shot during a traffic stop in West St. Paul last week.
