Violet Iverson, 1918-2014

Violet Jane Iverson, 96, of Kiester died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2014, surrounded by her family at St. John’s Lutheran Community in Albert Lea. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Kiester. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the church on Saturday. The Rev. Katie Pals will officiate and interment will be in Our Savior’s Lutheran Cemetery in Kiester. Please see www.brussheitner.com to leave online condolences. Violet was born June 14, 1918, in Kiester Township, Faribault County, the daughter of Thomas A. and Julia (Jelle) Eilertson. She graduated high school in 1936 and attended Waldorf College. She then worked at Kiester Bank for seven years.
She was united in marriage to Elmo Maynard Iverson March 11, 1944, at Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Kiester. To this union three children were born.
Violet was one of the founding board members of the Faribault County Red Cross and the chairwoman in 1997, as well as a member of the Kiester Legion Auxiliary and Kiester Fireman’s Auxiliary. She was a 50-year member of Faribault County Extension Group. She also served as the first female school board member from 1970 to 1979 at Kiester School District No. 222, giving Jane her high school diploma. Violet was the parish secretary for 29 years, from September 1968 to February 1997, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, where she was a member and active in WELCA.
Violet is remembered for her gift of hospitality for anyone, from a cup of coffee and cookie to a meal for those who were in need of company. Violet was faithful at remembering and celebrating birthdays of family and friends by baking, hosting or sending birthday greetings. Violet will be remembered as perseverant, loyal, dedicated, organized and as a feisty woman who enriched the lives of family and friends.
Violet is survived by three children, Earl (Cynthia) Iverson of Kiester, Thomas Iverson (Diane Hoffbauer of Anchorage, Alaska) of Eden Prairie and Jane Iverson of Eagan; five grandchildren, Ryan (Jessica) Iverson of Olathe, Kan., Kristin (Eric) Weckwerth of Rochester, Cole (Calista) Iverson of Wichita, Kan., Justin Iverson of Eden Prairie and Leah Iverson of Tucson, Ariz.; five great-grandchildren, Reid, Brennan and Kate Weckwerth, and Elizabeth and Luke Iverson; brother, Jerald (Mardelle) Eilertson, of Bricelyn; and many nieces, nephews and their families.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elmo, in 1984; siblings Agnes Jacobson in 2003, Olina Gudal in 1973, Evangeline Flo in 1990, fraternal twin, Viola Rye, in 2006, Edward Eilertson in 2007 and LaMar Eilertson in 1970; and niece, Kathryn Eilertson, in 2008.
Family prefers memorials to Faribault County Red Cross Chapter, Interfaith Caregivers or Crossroads Community Hospice.
