ST. PAUL — St. Paul is starting a $2.5 million repair and resurfacing project for most of its 20 worst-rated roads.

Construction on about half of the roads will start today and is slated to go through mid-October. Work will begin Sept. 22 on another four roads.

The top layer of pavement on the roads will be ground away and replaced with new pavement. The repairs are expected to last about 10 years.

Street maintenance civil engineer Matt Morrein said the rough winter created massive potholes that crews have been working to patch. He said it’s time to start fresh with a full overhaul.

Local traffic detours and parking restrictions will be posted.
