A 4-0 win by the Albert Lea girls’ soccer team Thursday at Winona was even more lopsided than the final score indicated.
The Tigers out-shot the Winhawks 43-3. Of the 80-minute game, Albert Lea controlled the ball in Winona’s zone more than 67 minutes. Also, the Tigers had 20 corner kicks. Winona, zero.
“There was an incessant rain storm going all game, but we played well enough throughout the match under those conditions,” said Albert Lea coach Rick Barnhill.”
The Tigers finished the regular season with a 9-3-2 overall record and a 4-0-1 record in Section 2A.
Barnhill said the final section tournament brackets will be announced today. The No. 1 seed out of 15 will be the only team to recieve a first-round bye. Albert Lea is the only team in the section without a section loss, so the Tigers are expected to take the No. 1 seed.
