Funeral services for Dorothy Bennett will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Theodore’s Catholic Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church. The Rev. Timothy Reker and Deacon Mike Ellis will officate. Interment will be at St. Theodore’s Catholic Cemetery.

Dorothy Ann Bennett, 93, passed away peacefully Thursday, Oct. 9, 2014, at Thorne Crest Retirement Community in Albert Lea. Dorothy was born to John and Matilda (Sable) Diedrick on March 1, 1921, in Albert Lea. She had been a lifelong resident of Albert Lea, graduating from Albert Lea High School. She was an active member at St. Theodore’s Catholic Church.

On Feb. 15, 1941, Dorothy married Walter M. Bennett in Albert Lea. Together they raised five children. Dorothy was a homemaker who spent her free time sewing, crocheting and playing cards. She was the kind of lady people gravitated toward because she always had a sympathetic ear, willing to listen.

Dorothy is survived by her children Walter S. (Nancy) Bennett of Andover, John (Jan) Bennett of Albert Lea, Barb (Curt) Schoenrock of Plymouth, Michael (Paula) Bennett of Albert Lea and Judy (Rick) Mummert of Albert Lea; 13 grandchildren, Steve Bennett, Garry Bennett, Matt Bennett, Anjanette Bennett, Andrea (Chad) Hindt, Allison (Kevin) Blair, Tony (Lindsay) Bennett, Sarah (Chad) Cooper, Brent (Kathy) Schoenrock, Amy (Brian) Vogt, Tim (Nikki) Bennett, Shawna (Bryan) Soper and Kristin (Mike) Bergdale; 19 great-grandchildren; former daughter-in-law, Phillis Bennett, of Minnetonka; brother, Ray (Jeanette) Diedrick, of Faribault; and sisters-in-law Wilma Ditlevson of Clarks Grove, Dee (Mrs. Ellsworth) Bennett of Albert Lea and Kathy (Mrs. Merrill) Bennett of Albert Lea.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Walter M. Bennett; parents; infant son, Steven; brother, Jack Diedrick; sister, Marion (Norman) Osmundson; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Deloris (Verne) Kelly, Phyllis Bennett, Myrtle Bennett, Harry (Mary) Bennett, Ellsworth Bennett, Merrill Bennett and John Ditlevson.
