Shooting guns isn’t voting for guns

This letter is in response to Rep. Shannon Savick claiming to be, as the headline said, “Setting record straight on guns,” on Oct. 25.

Finally recognizing that gun rights are important to her constituents, Rep. Savick is now trying to tout her pro-gun credentials.

Unfortunately, Rep. Savick’s actions do not match her words. Please allow me to “set the record straight.”

Rep. Savick towed her party line on every single gun vote in the House Public Safety Committee.

In a committee meeting on Feb 6, 2013, Rep. Savick walked out during my testimony educating the committee members on the dangers of banning common rifles based on cosmetic and ergonomic features.

Rep. Savick also co-authored legislation removing your ability to sell your private firearm anywhere near a gun show. (I find this especially odd as a city in her district hosts one of the largest gun shows in the region.)

Supporting the Second Amendment has nothing to do with being “a pretty good shot” or owning five guns over 30 years.

Rep. Savick has repeatedly dodged to make commitment to support any pro-gun measures, or defend your Second Amendment rights. Her latest letter continues that trend.

I hope this sets the record straight.
