50 years ago: 1964
• Jim Bratvold scored two touchdowns for the Albert Lea football team in its 28-6 victory over the Faribault Falcons. Darryl Gavle and Chuck Jean also scored for the Tigers.
• Glenville won its first football game in the Southland Conference with a 13-7 win over Elkton. Scoring for Glenville were Danny Rodgers and Brent Buchanan.
• Alden won its 23rd consecutive game and its 29th straight Border League game and also raised its season record to 4-0 with a 53-6 win against Bricelyn. Scoring two touchdowns each for Alden were George Purdy, Wayne Hensch and Allen Schmidt.
• With 1:15 left in the game, Larry Sundsvold ran for a 65-yard touchdown and then kicked the extra point for Kiester in a 7-6 win over Frost. Kiester raised its record to 4-0 and remained tied with Alden with a 4-0 Border League record.
25 years ago: 1989
• The Alden-Conger-Freeborn volleyball team remained unbeaten with a 3-0 win over Blooming Prairie. Jenny Stenzel was 20-of-21 serving; Chrissie Boettcher and Darcy Evenson each had six kills for Alden-Conger-Freeborn.
• The Albert Lea girls’ swimming team defeated Owatonna 97-73. Double winners for the Tigers were Leah Mattson in the 100-yard butterfly, with a school record of 1:04.11 and the 200 freestyle and Erin Gueltzow in the 50 and 100 freestyle.
• The Albert Lea volleyball team defeated Mankato West 3-1 by scores of 11-15, 15-2, 15-13 and 15-11. Jeni Ortgies was 22-of-23 serving, Jill Johnson had eight ace hits for Albert Lea.
10 years ago: 2004
• Jeri (Domes) Porter, a 1981 graduate of Albert Lea, was inducted into the Minnesota State, Mankato Athletic Hall of Fame. Porter was a two-time NCAA All-American in track and field at Minnesota State. She set Albert Lea school records in the 100- and 200-meter dashes and the 400-meter relay with teammates Mary Kortz, Stacey Guildner and Ronalee VanderWaal.
• The Albert Lea girls’ soccer team shut out Austin 3-0. Scoring goals for Albert Lea were Leah Walters, two, and Kendra Olchefski.
