Teen singers excited for trip

A big thank you to all who donated to our choir trip to Hawaii at the Minnesota luau celebration at Hy-Vee last weekend! The students appreciate the support and had a great time getting in the “tropical mode” in preparation for the trip. Hy-Vee once again was very generous and showed its dedication to young people in our community.
There will be many more opportunities coming up to help the students meet their financial goals. Choir students are selling Butterbraids, are holding a burger basket night at the American Legion on Oct. 24, and will be selling cheesecakes in time for Christmas. Look ahead for a delicious spaghetti supper in January along with a silent auction.
My choral director friends in the metro area always marvel at the way that our small town turns out to support our young musicians. With the help of many donors in Albert Lea, the choir has had the opportunity to travel to amazing places. The trip in March will find the Albert Lea High School choir singing at the Pearl Harbor Memorial sites, at the University of Hawaii, doing a high school exchange concert and singing for developmentally challenged adults along with sightseeing and plenty of beach time!
Music students at ALHS have a busy schedule. The choir and orchestra students will be presenting their first concert of the year on Oct. 28 at First Lutheran Church. The choir will be singing at a school assembly in honor of Veterans Day. They will present the musical “Into the Woods” in November, and, of course, the annual holiday choral concert on Dec. 8. The chorale will also be available for holiday community performances.
We hope you can come to hear the choirs sing. I promise they do that better than the hula dancing you might have seen last weekend!
