Audrey Cox, 1927-2014

Memorial services for Audrey Meredith Cox, 87, of Hayward will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Hayward Lutheran Church. The Rev. Joel Erickson will officiate. Interment will be in the Hayward Cemetery. Audrey died Monday, Nov. 3, 2014, at Good Samaritan Society of Albert Lea.

Audrey Meredith Marpe Cox was born Sept. 19, 1927, in Albert Lea, the daughter of Edwin and Helen (Stevens) Marpe. She was baptized and confirmed at Alden Lutheran Church, attended the Buckeye Country School and graduated from Alden High School. Following graduation Audrey attended teacher’s training at Wells Normal School. Audrey taught school for a few years before her marriage to Leonard V. Cox on Dec. 22, 1947. She was a member of the 4-H clubs in Alden and Pickerel Lake, and helped with the Hayward 4-H. She was an active member of Hayward Lutheran Church, a member of the Ladies’ Aid there and helped with Sunday school. In later years Audrey also worked as the custodian for the church.

Survivors include her daughter, Virginia (Jeff) VandeKamp, of Hollandale; grandson, Joshua VandeKamp, and his daughter, Peyton, and granddaughter, Heather VandeKamp; daughter-in-law, Karen Cox, and her children Anthony, Dustin, Shannon, Amber and children Jackson and Brooklyn, and Angela; and several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews.

Audrey was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leonard; and her son, Donald.
