Fire danger expected to increase

GRAND RAPIDS — Dry conditions are expected to increase the danger of wildfires in Minnesota this weekend.

Officials said even though much of Minnesota got some rain over the past week, it amounted to less than a quarter inch in many areas.

Several counties in Minnesota have received below-normal rainfall for August, September and October. The dry conditions — combined with high winds, low relative humidity and dead, dry vegetation following the hard frost — would increase the fire danger Saturday and Sunday.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources restricted burning in several counties over the weekend.

Campfires were still allowed. But officials urged people to be careful with campfires.
