Jean Alm

Born April 21, 1924, in Jericho, Vt., the daughter of Chester Sinclair and Helen (Thorp) Sinclair, she moved as a girl to Minnesota where Chet managed the Wright Ranch east of Hayward.

She met and fell in love with Lloyd Alm in high school in Albert Lea and married him the day after the invasion of Pearl Harbor. Jean moved from base to base with Lloyd who became a Tech Sergeant in the Army Air Corps where he was the crew chief for bombers.

After the war, Lloyd worked as an electrician in Albert Lea and the two of them purchased the hardware store in Hayward, which Jean managed. Later, they retired to a farm south of Hayward, where Jean tended the garden, fed birds, maintained the house and worked with her stained glass. Both were members of the Hayward Lutheran Church.

Jean is survived by her two children, Steven Alm and his wife Rebecca of Minneapolis and Chloe and her husband Gordon of Mill Valley, Calif.; grandchildren, Lucas (wife Jenney Stevens) Alm of St. Paul and Stephan (wife Sara) of San Francisco, Calif.; and great grandchildren Isobel and Nasen.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, sister Pearl and her husband Lloyd. Memorials preferred to Hayward Lutheran Church.
