Opposites attract in lecture series

Published 10:58 am Thursday, November 13, 2014

The November lecture in the Dorothy Godtland Lecture series will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Albert Lea Art Center. This month’s speaker is Neal Skaar, a retired teacher who taught English and math at Albert Lea High School for 46 years.

Skaar’s topic, “Opposites Attract or Every Rose Has Its Thorns,” investigates how opposites present themselves in religion, philosophy and literature. His topic will delve into how opposites are revealed not only in science and math, but also in all forms of artistic expression.

“Just take Genesis, the first book of the Bible,” said Skaar. “There is the garden of Eden, but also the serpent; you can’t know one without the other.”
